About Mary

Hello. I’m Mary Maier-Abel, a mother, protector, and advocate of special needs individuals. I love my family and my life as the guard and guide to my crew of adult and adolescent children with multiple special needs conditions. I’ll be honest, I haven’t always loved it. There have been moments that no one could find affection for. Life can devastate you and break your heart. But it can also be so very rewarding and beautiful. When other individuals depend on you to improve and defend the quality of their life, you see life and your role in it in a completely new light.

My children have been my teachers more often than not, helping me to learn what’s most important in this thing called life. Those lessons are priceless and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. That’s why I have chosen, with my children’s consent, to share our story with the world. It is my hope that you find some kernels of wisdom or sparkles of hope from our story that will help you live out your own best existence.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
